Alfred Maurice Anderwald

June 19, 1927 — May 17, 2023

Alfred M. Anderwald, 95, of Bandera Texas, passed away on May 17, 2023, in Bandera Texas.  He was born to Frank J. Anderwald and Agnes E. Thanheiser on June 19, 1927. He married Mary Helen Callaway in 1951 in Bandera Texas.

He graduated High School in Bandera Texas in 1945 and was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed in San Antonio, Texas.  His service period only lasted three weeks due to the U.S dropping the first atomic bomb on Japan and World War II coming to an end.  His sergeant also discovered he was blind in one eye and asked him, “what the hell are you doing here” and discharged him from the service.  Upon his release from the military, he returned to Bandera County and worked on the Merrick Ranch as a cattle hand and did some dozer work for the ranch.  After cowboying all day, he would ride bulls to blow off some steam.  In 1948 he was the Bandera County bull riding champion and rode the bull named “high lonesome” to win the title.  Alfred then went on to become a bulldozer operator and worked many years building America’s interstate highway system all over Texas.  After many years operating a dozer he hung it up and began working for Valero at the natural gas compressor station in Bandera County.  Upon retirement from the compressor station, he went to work right across the highway running a dozer and eventually bought a tractor and started his own mowing business and shredded fields for people all over Bandera County.

Alfred Anderwald is preceded in death by his wife Mary Helen Anderwald and his granddaughter Jessica Lynn Anderwald.

Alfred Anderwald is survived by his son Joseph Todd Anderwald, his brother Alton Anderwald, his grandchildren Kurtis Todd Anderwald and Kara Alyse Anderwald, and his great grandchildren Jon-Luke Alfred Anderwald, Jace Michael Anderwald, and Austin J Anderwald.
