Obituary

Arnold Lionel Francis, 78, of Pipe Creek, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on June 22, 2026.

Affectionately known as “Arnie,” he was born on November 10, 1947, in Wareham, Massachusetts, to Wesley Earl Breakell and Florence (Lopes). He attended Rochester Regional High School before continuing his education at the University of Massachusetts, where he earned three separate degrees. Arnie was also a proud Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

Following his graduation, Arnie answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He completed five tours of duty during the Vietnam War, where his courage, leadership, and dedication earned him the distinction of “Soldier of the Year” on three occasions. During his combat service, he trained as a medic and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star in recognition of his heroism and meritorious service.

After his military service, Arnie returned to Massachusetts, where he married and built a remarkable and accomplished life. His many endeavors included owning a Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership, operating J.J. Francis Trucking, serving as a Massachusetts State Trooper and later as a Federal Game Warden. He was also a dedicated member of the American Farrier Association and spent 25 years as a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club. An accomplished author, Arnie wrote a book on equine health, reflecting his lifelong passion for horses.

Arnie will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Annette; his two sons, Jason Francis and Justin Francis; and his two grandsons, Barrett Francis and Emreigh Long.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Gus and Maria Lopes; his brother, Phillip Francis; and his half-brother, Edward D. Francis IV.

A memorial service honoring Arnie’s life will be held at Bandera Funeral Chapel in Bandera, Texas, on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Dale Friedrich officiating.
