Barbara Mackey, of Bandera, TX passed away September 22, 2026 at the age of 93. She was born in Hartshorne, OK to Charles and Esta Colson on August 20, 1933. She married Jack Mackey on December 17, 1951 in Angleton, TX. They lived in Freeport and Jones Creek, TX until 1994 when they moved to Bandera, TX.

She graduated from Hartshorne High School in Oklahoma and received her BA and MS degrees from the University of Houston. She retired from Brazosport ISD in 1994 after 21 years of working with special needs students.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Mackey, her parents, Charles and Esta Colson, and her siblings, James Breece, Margaret Woods, and Betty Colson.

Barbara is survived by her children, Lisa Bradley (Jack), Chuck Mackey, and Kelly Frederick and her grandchildren Josh (Amber) Bradley, Kirby Mackey, Jessica (Scott) Mullins, Amanda (Roger) Hixon, Jacob Bradley (Amanda), Chance Mackey, Jamie Bradley, Katie Mackey, Wendell Mackey, and Beth (Travis) Watkins. Her great grandchildren are Colby Cash, Christian Bradley, Lorelai Bradley, Heaven Mackey and Jack Walker Bradley with Kolbie Jean Watkins due in December.

It is with heavy hearts we celebrate the home going of Barbara Mackey, whose faith, kindness and servant’s heart touched everyone who was blessed to know her. She lived each day as a reflection of God’s grace offering wisdom, encouragement, and love to family, friends, and all who crossed her path. Her gentle spirit and unwavering faith were evident in the way that she cared for others, always putting their needs above her own, extending compassion

without hesitation. Proverbs 31:26 beautifully describes the life that she lived “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Her words brought comfort to the hurting, guidance to the uncertain and hope to those facing life’s challenges. Whether through a thoughtful conversation, a heartfelt prayer, or a simple act of kindness, she had a gift for making others feel valued and loved. She also embodied the truth in 1 Peter 4:10, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” God entrusted her with many gifts, and she faithfully used them to serve everyone that she encountered. She was a willing helper, an encouraging presence, and a shining example of Christ’s love in action.

Her legacy is not measured simply by the years she lived, but by the countless lives that she touched. Through her faith, generosity, and unwavering commitment to serving others, she inspired others to live with greater compassion, humility, and purpose.

Though we grieve her passing, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and take comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of our Saviour. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts, and her example will continue to inspire generations to come.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on October 2, 2026 at the Bandera Funeral Chapel with cousin, Pastor Larry DeLay, officiating. Public viewing will begin at 9:15 am.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Bradley, Jacob Bradley, Chance Mackey, Wendell Mackey, Travis Watkins, and Jordan Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Mackey and Mike Burney.

Memorials may be given to Helping Hands of Bandera, Christ for the World, Inc., Disabled Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and Samaritan’s Purse.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bandera Funeral Chapel.
