Betty Clark

March 11, 1939 — July 12, 2015

Betty Louise Lee Clark, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, July 12th. She was surrounded by family and suffered no pain when Jesus took her home. Betty was 76. We can only imagine the wonders she is witnessing now that she has reached her destination.\r\n \r\nBetty's last moments and her last words were spent in the place she loved most. She was addressing her church's congregation, announcing plans for their upcoming Vacation Bible School. During these announcements, Betty fainted into the arms of a deacon and was gently laid on the floor. She never recovered. "Her last breath on earth and her next in heaven."\r\n \r\nShe was born on March 11, 1939 in Hankamer, Texas to Jess Morgan Lee and Lillian Louise Lee. Most of her life was spent within a few miles of there. Betty graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont where she was a cheerleader...and it seems she led cheers for the rest of her life.\r\n \r\nBetty married Thomas Frank Clark on April 9, 1958 in Beaumont. She was a licensed beautician and helped support her young family while Tom pursued his education. In later years she owned an antique business in Houston. Betty will best be remembered as a caregiver to any friend in need. This was her God-given gift and she was relentless in it's pursuit.\r\n \r\nBetty Clark's primary focus was on Jesus and her church. If the doors were open she was there. She actually had the keys. Betty taught Sunday school for decades but it seems she was everywhere, doing whatever needed to be done. In 2006, years after Tom died, Betty moved to Kerrville to be nearer family. She also found a wonderful fellowship at Western Hills Baptist Church where she invented the word "committee" (she led several and was on most). Her pastor said of her, "If you can't find a way to help her, just get out of her way."\r\n \r\nHer husband, Tom preceded her in death as did her sisters, Sandy Kampfer, Jewel Gibson, Rusty Crawford and brother, JM Lee. She will be remembered by her son, David Clark and his wife Joy Clark of Fort Worth; her daughter, Debi C. Maxwell and her husband Steve Maxwell of Kerrville; and her sister, Mildred Griffin of Houston. Then of course her precious grandchildren, David Madden, Dylan Madden with his wife Shelly, Tom G. Clark, Dobson Maxwell and Mary Clark. There are also many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors, and of course...her brothers and sisters at Western Hills Baptist Church.\r\n \r\nIt is certain that this petite lady left large footprints on this earth.\r\n \r\nThere will be a visitation Thursday evening, July 16th, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville. Services are at Western Hills Baptist Church, 2010 Goat Creek Rd, Kerrville, at 2:00 pm, Friday, July 17th. Betty will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 18th at 10:00 am, in Hankamer, TX at Abshier Cemetery.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
