Betty Ann Verstraeten, age 74, of Bandera, passed away on May 6, 2025. She was born on September 29, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas, to Melvin J. Friesenhahn and Dorothy Ida Friesenhahn.
Betty graduated from Southwest High School in 1970. A couple years later, she got married and moved to the family farm, where she grew vegetables and raised her three daughters. She was a loving and devoted mom who enjoyed cooking, cleaning, sewing, and taking care of her kids. After her marriage ended, she worked a few different jobs and eventually started her own cleaning business.
Betty loved to travel, just not by airplane. She enjoyed going to the beach, visiting the mountains, and especially loved fishing. More than anything, she loved being a grandma and never missed a chance to be with her grandkids or show up to their events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Dorothy Friesenhahn.
She is survived by her ex-husband, Frank Verstraeten; daughters, Susan Verstraeten, Sandi Kohlleppel (Richard), and Sheri Meurett; sisters, Frances Brandt and Elizabeth Miller; and her brothers, Dwayne Friesenhabn, and Tommy Friesenhabn. She also leaves behind her grandkids: Travis Fields, Chase Fields, Conner Verstraeten, Courtney Meurett, Megan Meurett, Ty Bierschwale, and Aspyn Bierschwale.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Bandera Funeral Chapel, with the service starting at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Minister Mark Caronna. Burial will follow at Bandera Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Verstraeten, Les Miller, Jeremy Miller, Dwayne Friesenhahn, Tommy Friesenhahn, and Jerrod Friesenhahn.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bandera Funeral Chapel.
