Charles Newcomer

October 11, 1933 — April 1, 2022

The Newcomer family Patriarch, Charles Milton Newcomer (Charlie/Chuck), 88, passed away April 1, 2022, at his home near Pipe Creek, Texas.  He was born in Pipe Creek/Bandera County, October 11, 1933, the youngest of five children by Elmo Newcomer and Birdee Ellis.

He joined the U.S. Navy October 20, 1950, barely 17 years old, serving in the Korean War.  The military afforded him an opportunity to study at Hospital Corp School Field Medical Training in San Diego, CA.  He was a teenager, started out as a Cook & ended up a Field Medic in Korea, and during his nearly 4 years of active service, he accumulated at least six awards, commendations, and medals.  An honor ceremony will be held at Pipe Creek Cemetery at a later date.

Daddy "Chuck” worked most of his adult life as Owner/Operator of an 18-wheeler.  When Mom "Johnnie" could travel with him, they started C&J Trucking, a long-haul, North America trucking business, so they could both see the country.  When home from trucking, he relaxed with local newspapers, magazines, current events, politics. He enjoyed collecting "stuff" to be used later and working outside on cars or fences, etc. He enjoyed watching Wheel-of-Fortune, as well as the NFL & the Spurs.  One of the things he collected was cats.  He also liked country music & liked to dance.

He married Johnnie Lou Murrin of San Antonio, Texas, at the Methodist Church in San Antonio on May 30,1958. Luckily, they were able to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2018 before Johnnie's ascent to heaven in February 2019.

Mr. Newcomer is survived by their four children: William Jack "Bill" Newcomer (67 of New Braunfels, TX), Karen Newcomer (62 of Las Vegas, NV), Cynthia Gayle "Cindy" Newcomer (60) & Charles Elmo Newcomer (57), both currently residing near the old homestead in Pipe Creek, TX.  In addition, Chuck is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joann Rieck of Houston, daughter-in-law Esther Munoz Newcomer (Charles Elmo's wife), three Grandsons: William Jessa "BJ" Newcomer, his wife Amy & their two children Grant & Jessa; Christopher Newcomer of Las Vegas, & Mithcell Newcomer.  Chuck was blessed with one very lucky Granddaughter, Darcy Adame and her husband Joel.  Chuck/Charlie also has five nephews, two nieces, many in-laws, outlaws & numerous relatives from California to Virginia.

Standing with Mom (Johnnie) to greet Dad when he arrived upstairs, are his parents Elmo & Birdee, two brothers Clyde Emmett & William Elmo "Bill" Newcomer, two sisters: Loura Belle "Buzz" Smith & Evelyn Monti Schmidt & their respective husbands, Raymond T. Smith & Rudolph "Buster" Schmidt, as well as two other brothers in law, Albert E. Rieck & Tom Murrin.  Chuck will not lack for company up there and hopefully they'll show him the ropes.

The Newcomer "kids" are hosting a Memorial Service/Celebration of Chuck/Charles Newcomer at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30th, 2022, at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera, TX with luncheon to follow at a local restaurant, TBA.   Grimes will open at 10 a.m., so come grab a seat & remember Chuck/Charlie, hear some great stories & rejoice he has no more pain.

In lieu of flowers, why not make a donation to your favorite Charity, buy lunch, or gas or ice cream for someone who needs it.  Daddy's favorite was DQ Strawberry shake.
