Davida Graham Word was born September 15, 1918, in Mangum, Eastland County, Texas, and died March 22, 2017, in Kerrville, Texas. She was the fourth child born to Francis Marion and Claudia (Kellett) Graham. She grew up in Abilene, Texas, and graduated from Abilene High School in 1935 and attended Abilene Christian College where she was active in social and choral groups. Davida married the love of her life, Charles Freeman Word, on September 23, 1938. While Charles served in the Navy during World War II, Davida served by working at Camp Barkeley, a large U.S. Army training installation outside of Abilene. After the war they spent 15 happy years in Abilene, where their three daughters were born and spent their early years.\r\n \r\nIn 1960, Charles' work as a petroleum geologist took the family to Conroe, Texas, where Davida lived even after Charles' death in 1999. In 2007 she moved to Kerrville, Texas, to be closer to family.\r\n \r\nDavida was a long time member of the First Christian Church of Conroe, where she served on the Christian Women's Fellowship board and in many other capacities. She was a competitive golfer for many years, but she loved to play duplicate bridge. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and achieved the status of Gold Life Master. She enjoyed her "bridge friends" in Conroe and Kerrville, and played (and often won) until the last three years of her life.\r\n \r\nDavida was a loving and generous mother and Gran who possessed a strong spirit and a dry sense of humor. She will be sorely missed by her daughters, Barbara (Rick) Fisher of Austin, TX, Betsy Drapela of Kerrville, and Cynthia Word (Danny Banner) of Chevy Chase, MD. Three grandchildren also survive: Eric Paul Fisher and Charles Andrew (Misty) Fisher, all of Austin, and Charles David (Emily) Drapela of Boerne, TX. Great grandchildren are Kathryn Davida Fisher, Anna Elizabeth Fisher and Charles Wilson Drapela.\r\n \r\nShe was predeceased by her parents, brothers Cyril and James Graham, sister Mozelle Scarborough, and all of her in-laws. She was the last of her generation, and is now reunited with all of those loved ones in the arms of Jesus.\r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held 4 PM, Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Faith Christian Church in Kerrville officiated by Pastor Joseph Fegenbush.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hill Country Youth Ranch, Raphael Community Free Clinic or Word Dance Theater (http://worddance.org/index.php).\r\n \r\n"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39.\r\n
