Dock Frankin Dixon Jr.

September 23, 1930 — August 25, 2025

Dock Franklin Dixon, Jr., age 94, of Bandera, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025. Born September 23, 1930 in Way Cross, Georgia to Dock F. Dixon and Edith Bernice Dixon, he lived a long, full life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and generosity toward everyone he met.

A 1948 graduate of Patterson High School, Dock received his BS Degree in Biology from Valdosta State Jr College and received his Doctor Veterinarian Medicine (DVM ) Degree in 1960 from University of Georgia following with his Masters of Science degree in Laboratory Animal Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1964.

A proud patriot, Dock retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot in his early years thus becoming a Veterinarian in the Air Force with over 26 years of active duty. Following his military career, he dedicated his life to caring for animals as a Civilian Veterinarian with the Animal Defense League in San Antonio, Texas. He was deeply involved with the Masonic community, serving as Grand Commander in the Knights Templar and other Masonic affiliations.

Beyond his service and work, Dock was an avid golfer and a lifelong lover of music. He found joy both on the fairway and in melodies that lifted his spirit.

Dock is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Walker Dixon, Brother Woodson Dixon and Sister Barbara Thompson of Georgia.

He is survived by his siblings Beverly Wall, Berna Parker and Larry Dixon all of Georgia.

Children: Patricia and Marc Allen, Jeffrey and Valerie Dixon, and Merry Dixon; his cherished grandchildren: Jason Brown, Matthew Brown, Jeffrey Brown, Olivia Paige Dixon Sanson, Lindsay and Clayton Bryson Sydney and Braden Kriley, Cameron Reyes and Camille Reyes, his great grandchildren: Kimber Michah Brown, Georgia Raye Sanson, and Jordan Bryson.

Known affectionately as “Papa Dock,” he treasured every moment spent with his family.

Dock will be remembered for his generous spirit, warm smile, and ability to make friends wherever he went—he truly never met a stranger. His life was a testament to kindness, service, and love.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, September 2, 2025, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Bandera Funeral Chapel, Bandera, Texas with Burial at the Bandera Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of a remarkable life well lived.

Pallbearers will be Jason Brown, Matthew Brown, Forrest Allen, Cameron Reyes, Tom Villarreal, Marc Allen and Jeffrey Dixon.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bandera Funeral Chapel.
