Douglas Bresler, Jr.

June 3, 1944 — January 21, 2015

Douglas George Bresler, Jr., 70, went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2015, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Doug was born in Omaha, Nebraska, June 3, 1944, to Lt. Col. Douglas George Bresler, Sr. and Marie Mangan Bresler. The D-Day Invasion occurred three days after he was born, and he always linked that historical event with his birthday. When Doug was three, his family moved to occupied Berlin where his father flew in the Berlin Airlift. As a teenager, he spent three years with his parents in Japan. \r\n \r\nDoug graduated from John Marshall High School in San Antonio. He was the R.O.T.C. Corps Commander at Trinity University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. He earned his Masters in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University before entering the Army Signal Corps in 1969. Doug was a Captain in the 101st Airborne while serving in Vietnam. After Vietnam, Doug worked for The Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas. He enjoyed helping with his children's activities such as youth soccer, girls' softball, Little League, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. He especially enjoyed canoeing with the scouts and backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch with his son's troop. Doug was in the first class for soccer referees when Lake Jackson's program started, and he helped design several soccer fields for the city. Doug spent 23 years in Freeport where he was Manager of the Marine and Terminals Technology Center. He then spent seven years at Dow's Corporate Headquarters in Midland, Michigan, where he was a Project Manager in Chemicals and Metals. He retired to Kerrville in 2002, where he enjoyed being a Master Naturalist and taking genealogy classes. \r\n \r\nDoug is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Pamela Leiby Bresler, and their children, Kimberly Anne Bresler, Brian Douglas Bresler and wife, Jackie, and Carey Elizabeth Bresler and husband, Michael Rubin. Doug is survived by five grandchildren: Braedon Douglas Bresler, Benton Jack Bresler, Bryson Thomas Bresler, Zoe Addison Rubin and Bailey Shea Rubin. Doug will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first.\r\n \r\nWe are grateful for Doug's caregivers, Teri Hunt and Brittney McCune, as well as the Peterson Hospice "angels" Michell, Aaron, Dawn, Martha, Alan, Laurie, Belinda, Paulette, Eloisa, Diane, Jennifer, Cherry, Elisa, Cathy, Nicol, Kimber and Marisa. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Villagio for their loving care of Doug. Peggy Pilkenton's dementia caregiving advice was invaluable.\r\n \r\nServices will be 2 PM, Friday, January 30, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Kerrville, followed by a reception at the church. Private family services with full military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date. \r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the KFUMC Foundation (kfumc.org), or a charity of one's choice. \r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
