Eula Mccandless

December 3, 1927 — July 12, 2020

Nell Malone McCandless was born in Dallas, Texas, December 3, 1927 and passed from this earth in Kerrville, Texas on July 12, 2020. She was 92 years young.\r\n\r\nAs an infant, she was adopted out of Hope Cottage by Jack and Loretta Malone spending her first 14 years in Fulton County, Arkansas. She moved with her parents and brother, R.A., to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1941. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1945. She entered the workforce doing clerical work and grew in her office and administrative skills through her life. She married Billy McCandless in Corpus Christ, Texas on December 19, 1948. Billy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force which allowed them to travel extensively throughout Japan, Europe and the United States. Nell loved to travel, meet new people, see the cultural and historic sights of an area and grow in her appreciation of the diversity and similarity of the world. Nell was a life-long learner, avid reader, and game player. She moved to Kerrville in 1978. Nell was a woman of strong faith and became a member of First United Methodist Church, Kerrville. She was also a charter member of Trailblazers Walking Club. Her ministry through FUMC included being a worship greeter, a member of the Good News Sunday school class, SALT Shakers, Stephen Ministry and Christian Healing Ministry. Through Community of Hope she was certified as a lay chaplain.\r\n\r\nNell is survived by half-sisters Pat Homesly and Mary Dell Hackler of Cleburne, Texas, Rev. Mickey McCandless (Terry), Kay Rodriguez, Mark McCandless (Janet) and Laura Ortiz, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.\r\n\r\nA memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Kerrville, Saturday, July 18, 2020, 10:00am in the sanctuary, Rev. Dr. Donna McGee presiding.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers please make donations to FUMC-Children's Ark, Hill Country Youth Ranch or Peterson Hospice.
