It is with broken hearts and immeasurable love that we announce the passing of Gene Martinez, who left this world on June 21, 2026, at the age of 47.
Born in Kerrville, Texas, Gene made his home in Bandera, Texas, where he lived a life that was as big as his heart. He wasn’t just someone you met, he was someone you never forgot. His laughter could fill a room, his smile could brighten the darkest day, and his generous spirit had a way of making everyone feel like family. Gene was funny, caring, loving, incredibly smart, and endlessly kind. He was the kind of man who would drop everything to help someone in need, never expecting anything in return. His love for others was genuine, and his presence made the world a better place.
Gene had a passion for all things with wheels and an engine. He loved building and restoring trucks, riding motorcycles, going to races, and spending countless hours at his desk tinkering with whatever project had captured his attention. But what truly made him special was his desire to share those passions. Whether he was teaching someone how to fix something, offering advice, or simply encouraging another person’s interest, Gene found joy in passing along his knowledge. His patience, talent, and enthusiasm inspired countless people, and the lessons he taught will live on through everyone whose lives he touched.
More than anything, Gene loved his family. Being a husband and father was the greatest privilege of his life. He loved fiercely, protected those he cared about, and created countless memories that will be treasured forever. The love he gave so freely will continue to surround his family, even in his absence.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Irma Martinez; his cherished daughter, Michelle Valdez (Spouse - Ernest Valdez, Grandchildren- Faith Rose Valdez, Robert Valdez, Ernest Valdez Jr, and Skyler Valdez) his beloved sons, Lucas Duarte and Jayden Martinez; his Sister Sara White (Spouse - Bryan White) along with many extended family members and lifelong friends who were blessed to know and love him.
He was welcomed into eternal peace by those who went before him, including his mother, Alma Rasmussen; his aunt, Margie Martinez; his grandfather, Marcelino Martinez; his grandmother, Nicolasa Martinez; Arthur "Turtle" Martinez; Baby A and many other beloved family members.
The loss of Gene leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express. While our hearts are shattered, we are grateful for every laugh he shared, every lesson he taught, every helping hand he offered, and every moment we were fortunate enough to spend with him. His love, strength, and larger-than-life spirit will remain woven into the lives of those who knew him. Though he is no longer by our side, he will forever be with us—in every revving engine, every open road, every shared laugh, and every memory that brings a smile through our tears.
A funeral and celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Bandera Funeral Chapel in Bandera, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather as we celebrate the remarkable man he was, share stories, honor his memory, and find comfort in the love that will always keep him close.
Gene’s life reminds us that it is not the number of years we are given that defines us, but the love we share, the lives we touch, and the legacy we leave behind. Gene loved deeply, lived fully, and gave generously. He will be missed beyond words, loved beyond measure, and remembered for all eternity.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bandera Funeral Chapel.
