James Clifton Ashley, Sr.

James Clifton Ashley, Sr., of Pipe Creek, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at age 93.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Betty T. Ashley, his parents, Eddie and Callie Ashley, his brothers, Henry Clinton Ashley, Ray Howard Ashley, Clyde Earl Ashley, and his sister, Peggy Ashley Carr.

He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Skelly, and her husband, Bryan; son, James C. Ashley, Jr.; grandchildren, Jennifer Reza and her husband, Joseph; Courtney Fischer and her husband, Mitchell; Sarah Casburn and her husband, Ryan; Angela Kosmatka and her husband, Logan; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Fischer, Jaxon Reza, Jorden Reza, Atticus Casburn, Maverick Fischer, and Hudson Kosmatka; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born in Magee, Mississippi, on April 12, 1932, and grew up in Raleigh, Mississippi. He was a veteran, serving in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. After his service in the Air Force, he worked as a Canteen Director for the Veterans Administration for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He served God as a long-time member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 am on September 26, 2025, at Colonial Chapel in Magee, Mississippi. Graveside services will follow at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Mize, Mississippi, with Lucas Caina de Sousa of Laurel Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating.

Pallbearers will be James C. Ashley, Jr., Shandy Ashley, Ray Carr, Dwayne Johnson, Bryan Skelly, Kevin Smith.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kerrville, Texas. The family of James Clifton Ashley, Sr. sincerely thanks Dr. Bryan Sims, Peterson Hospice, Cedar Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Alan Johnson of Kerrville Seventh Day Adventist Church, and caregivers Deborah Milack and Beth Russell.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel in Bandera, Texas, and Colonial Chapel in Magee, Mississippi.
