John Gibbens

John Wyatt Gibbens, age 83 of Bulverde, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at his residence. He was born May 21, 1932 in Uvalde County, Texas to William Peter Gibbens and Margaret Heard Gibbens. On July 13, 1956, he married Louaunna Koen. \r\n \r\nJohn attended Uvalde High School and Southwest Texas State University. He was a member and in the Hall of Honor of the "T" Association at Southwest Texas State University. He was also a member of the Mountain Home Fire Department and ESD #2 Commissioner for two years each. He was on the Board of Directors of the Hill Country Cowboy Camp Meeting (President 2000-2001) and also cooked for the Meeting for 10 years. He was a teacher and coach at San Marcos Baptist Academy for 3 years and worked in the U.S. Civil Service for 28 ½ years with the Air Force.\r\n \r\nJohn was a former member and Deacon of Western Hills Baptist Church in Kerrville and Sunset Baptist Church in Mountain Home. He was a current member of Rebecca Creek Baptist Church in Spring Branch.\r\n \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Sid Gibbens.\r\n \r\nSurvivors include wife, Louaunna Koen Gibbens; children, Rachel Gibbens Kelley and husband, Douglas, Peter West Gibbens and wife, Mary and Daniel Wyatt Gibbens and wife, Jeri; brother, Bobby Gibbens and wife, Laquita; sister in law, Jo Gibbens; grandchildren, Becky Adams and husband, Vern, Melissa Brown and husband, Randy, Brad Gibbens and wife, Ryane, Kristin Jaworski and husband, Jeff, Victoria Gibbens, John Wyatt Gibbens, Will Gibbens, Maggie Burton and husband, Zac and Matthew Kelley and wife, Lyndsay; great grandchildren, Henley and Laettner Adams, Cooper Brown, Lucy and Penny Gibbens, and Julia and Emily Jaworski; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.\r\n \r\nVisitation will be held Friday, December 18, 2015, 6-9 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville.\r\n \r\nServices will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015, 2:30 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels officiated by Pastor James Leinneweber and Bro. Frank Pullin. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Mountain Home. \r\n \r\nMemorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and/or the Rebecca Creek Baptist Church in Spring Branch.\r\n
