John W. "Smitty" Smithheisler, age 93 of Kerrville, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016 in a local care center. He was born February 23, 1922 in Danville, Kansas to Robert Michael Smithheisler and Grace Russell Smithheisler. On April 14, 1973, he married Louise Neely Smithheisler.\r\n \r\nSmitty was a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired pilot who had flown for American Airlines for 30 years. Smitty was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville and the Tejas Club at the University of Texas at Austin.\r\n \r\nHe was preceded in death by wife, Louise; sister, Virginia Thompson and brother, Jim R. Smithheisler.\r\n \r\nSurvivors include daughter, Janet Smithheisler Mazurek and fiancé Russell Dale of Medina; sons, John Gordon Smithheisler of Dallas and Robert Lee Smithheisler of Wickenburg, Arizona; sister, Cora Selvey of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Renee, Rachel and her fiancé Benton, John, Laine and her husband Houston; and 1 great grandchild, G.H.\r\n \r\nGraveside services will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016, 2 PM at Lakeland Hill Memorial Park in Burnet. \r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville.
