In Loving Memory of John Mathew Stevens October 28, 1942 – July 9, 2025 John Mathew Stevens, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, in Kerrville, Texas. Born on October 28, 1942, in Camp Verde, Texas to Roy and Susie Mae Stevens, he was the second youngest of eight children and spent his early years surrounded by the natural beauty of the family ranch. He is survived by two loving sisters, Mamie Keith (James) and Marianne Leos (Carlos); one brother, Chester Stevens; eight nephews and one niece. A gifted student, John graduated as valedictorian of Center Point High School’s Class of 1961. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in 1965. A proud Longhorn, John remained a devoted fan of UT football and cheered for his favorite teams—the Cowboys, Astros, and Spurs. Following graduation, John served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969, working as a computer programmer. After receiving an honorable discharge, he then had a successful career as a programmer and then in sales. John retired to the family ranch, where he enjoyed time outdoors, caring for animals, and being with his dog, Fiona. John had a deep love for the arts. He wrote and recorded music, wrote poetry, and choreographed and taught dance. He valued time with family, especially sibling vacations and long domino games. His gentle spirit, kindness, and thoughtful presence touched everyone who knew him.
A private family service will be held to honor John’s life and legacy
