Kathryn Phillips

October 3, 1939 — December 5, 2025

Kathryn "Cappi" Phillips, 86, of Mico, passed peacefully on December 5, 2025, surrounded by love. Born in San Antonio, Texas, on October 3, 1939, to Italian immigrants Joe and Pearl Granieri. Cappi grew up on Medina Lake, where her father established Joe’s Place Wharf in 1916. She spent her childhood learning the ropes alongside him—a love for hard work and the outdoors that defined her life.

A natural athlete, Cappi excelled in softball (famous for her underhand pitch), golf, horseshoes, bowling (with many perfect scores), and water skiing (where she once topped a pyramid). But her competitive spirit was matched by her generosity; she sewed clothes for premature babies through Threads of Love, proving her hands were skilled with both needle and sport.

Adventure was in her blood—whether camping, traveling in their RV, or tackling yard work and woodworking with her husband, Stanley Phillips, whom she married on July 7, 1985. A member of countless clubs (softball, bowling, camping), she found joy in puzzles, reading, and life’s simple pleasures.

Known for her strength, humor, and big heart, Cappi never shied from a challenge. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, and her sister, Mary Joe. She is survived by her sister Jeanne Matthews; sons Chris (Debbie) Heyen and Cliff Heyen; grandson Chance (Kendall) Heyen; her beloved dog Rusty; and a legacy of love that endures.

A special thanks to Veronica Campos for her loving care in their final years.
