L.A. "Red" Weathers

L.A. “Red” Weathers was born October 20, 1925, in Moore, Texas, and passed away June 17, 2025, in Bandera, Texas, at the age of 99 years and 8 months young. He was married to Gerda Robinson on August 9, 1997, in Bandera, having met on the dance floor of the Cabaret in May 1991.

He retired from the TX Hwy Dept after 35 years as an accountant in Del Rio. He then moved to Corpus Christi, working for Vulcan Materials for 10 years, traveling throughout South Texas. He retired again and started traveling, eventually living in Bandera. He was a Veteran of World War II and served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater.

He was involved in the Masonic Lodge of Bandera and Del Rio for 63 years, Eastern Star of Bandera and Del Rio for 50 years, Scottish Rite Valley of Waco for 53 years, Al Amin Shriners of Corpus Christi, Temple of Suez Shriners of San Angelo. He served as Worshipful Master and District Deputy Master; he received the Golden Trowel award in Masonry, and he served as Worthy Patron several times in the Star. He was a member of Tarpley Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents Shearrer and Anna Belle G. Weathers; brothers D.E. Weathers, Ray Weathers, and Leo Weathers; sisters Merl Weathers, Noma W. Milam and LaVane W. Van Cleave, and niece Rae W. Cote.

He is survived by his wife Gerda; daughter Melody (Bill) Scannell; stepdaughter Kirsten (Pete) Mann; stepson James (Terry) Robinson; grandchildren Chad (Kristen) Scannell, Todd (Jennifer) Scannell, Brittni Eckhardt, Cody Eckhardt, Katie Robinson, Ken (Sarah) Robinson, Desiree Robinson, Tommy, Destiny, and Angelina Reed; and 14 great-grandchildren; niece Faye Hall; nephews Jimmy (Donnie) Van Cleave, Jack Van Cleave and John (Judy) Milam; numerous great-nieces & nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM on October 18, 2025, at the Bandera Masonic Lodge with a burial at Moore Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Shriners Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Hospital, or any charity of your choice.
