Lawrence Hilary Lindner

January 17, 1930 — March 2, 2024

Lawrence Hilary Lindner, 94, of Bandera, Texas, passed away on March 2, 2024. He was born on January 17, 1930, to Mary Rose (Ransleben) and Ernst Lindner in Kerr County on the Lindner Ranch.

 

Lawrence lived in Comfort, Texas until he was 6 years old when the family moved to Bandera. He graduated from Bandera High School in 1949. Lawrence enlisted in the Navy in January 1950, where he served 4 years abroad on the USS Mountrail, APA 213. During his service, Lawrence was an engineer on small landing crafts during the Korean War. Lawrence and Mary Esther (Ender) were married on April 6, 1953. After the Navy Lawrence worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 34 years in San Antonio. He was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 358 for 15 years. In this time, he was able to see his 3 sons make Eagle Scout and receive their God and Country awards. He was also tapped into the scout’s leaders Order of Arrow and received the Silver Beaver award, one of the highest awards an adult volunteer can receive in the Boy Scouts of America. He also went on to coach several ball teams in San Antonio. In 1995 he was very active in the Grace Lutheran Church where he served President of the Council for 2 years and property chairman for 5 years. Lawrence also worked with the wild game dinners and anything to help the youth. Lawrence never met a stranger that he wouldn’t talk to about his hometown of Bandera with pride. He always had a smile on his face and a joke to go with it. He was always in the stands watching his grandson Dustin play basketball. The team even presented him with their ball at the end of the season. 

 

Lawrence is preceded in death be his mother Mary Rose and his father Ernst, by his brothers Orville and Irvin and his sister Marguerite Hill, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

 

Surviving Lawrence is his wife Mary of 70 years. His sons; Steven (Alice) of Dallas, Texas, Kenneth (Debbie) of San Antonio, Texas, and Larry (Shanna) of Bandera, Texas. Grandson; Dustin Lindner of San Antonio, Texas. 3 step grandchildren; Michael Dugie, J.R. (Christy) Dugie, and Tracy (Aaron) Branders. Step-great grandchildren; Tyler Branders, Cade Dugie, Mackenzie Dugie, Cami Dugie, and Adaline Dugie. 

 

 

A visitation will be on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 5-7 PM at Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 2 PM at the Grace Lutheran Church in Bandera Texas. The burial will follow at the Bandera Cemetery. 

 

Any donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Bandera, Texas.
