Lloyd Gilbert Hickman, age 94 years & 7 months, of Bandera, Texas was called home by his Lord and Savior on December 31, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas.
He was born in Cuero, Texas to Robert Loyd and Annie Muriel Hickman on May 31, 1929. Lloyd married his one and only, true love of his life, Donna Jean Johnson on September 23, 1949, in California.
Lloyd grew up and attended schools in Houston, Texas and later in Fort Stockton, Texas. He joined the army at the age of 17, serving his country from 10/5/1946 - 9/15/1949 and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. During the latter part of his service, he was sent to California where he just happened to meet a little brown haired, brown eyed beauty, and after just 6 weeks they married on her 15th birthday, spending 68 and a half happy years together, until her passing.
In 1954 following the birth of their second child, they moved to Kerrville, Texas where he co-owned and operated "City Radio & Electric Services" for several years, before moving to the panhandle of Texas where he installed 200 ft. tall radio towers.
In 1963 he moved his family back to the Hill Country of Texas where he called Bandera home for the past 60 years.
At that time Lloyd took a job as an Electronic Designer at "South West Research Institute" in San Antonio for 34 years, retiring in 1997. Beginning in 1977, Lloyd served his community for 17 years as a Volunteer Paramedic and for several years filled the role of State Instructor and Skills Examiner, educating other fellow EMS personnel.
Lloyd loved the Lord with his whole heart, faithfully serving Him as an Elder of his Church for many years where he was a member of "Friendship Bible Chapel" in Kerrville, Texas for almost 30 years. Everyone that knew Lloyd will tell you how truly blessed they were to have known him, and how much he will be missed.
Lloyd is preceded in death by both his parents, his loving wife Donna Hickman and his son Ronnie Hickman.
Lloyd is dearly loved & survived by his children; Jeri Caraway (husband Robert), Audie Robbins (wife Sandy), Jeanie Chastain, Jennifer Allen (husband Scott); One sister; Joy Short Putnam, 20 Grandchildren, 45 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, and a multitude of extended family & friends, all of whom he loved and touched deeply.
Memorial Service celebrating his life is scheduled for January 12, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Bandera Cemetery. Pastor Ben Causey will be officiating.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel.
