Margarita “Margie” De Leon Jeffers, of Castroville, TX passed away on May 17, 2025 at her home. She was born in Chapman Ranch, TX to Simon and Carlota De Leon on May 25, 1946. She attended Chapman Ranch School. When she was not in school, she was busy working alongside her mom, helping her dad on the ranch, or taking care of her younger siblings. When her family moved to Medina, TX, she started babysitting. On March 23, 1963 she married the love of her life, Lynn Jeffers, and they made their home in Tarpley, TX. During this time, they welcomed son, Michael and then their daughter, Nancy. She was able to be a stay at home mom and learned the skill of sewing. She became so good at sewing that in later years the local school cheerleaders and Hermann Sons Dance students of Castroville went to get their uniforms made by her. In 1967, the Jeffers’ made the move to Castroville. At this time, they welcomed their second daughter, Dianna. Through the years, they made two more moves within Castroville then they purchased their home there. During these times, she excelled at being a homemaker, raising kids, cooking, and gardening. Her children remember that she was always taking and picking them up from school, being at school functions, helping them with their schoolwork, and always being there for them. Neighbors would regularly see her working in her flower beds and yard. As her kids grew older, she worked at Medina Valley Greenhouse using her vast knowledge of plants to educate others about plants. In addition, she became a licensed babysitter and welcomed a number of children into her home who called her Momma Margie. She loved each of them like her own and they were always excited to come stay with her. Once her grandchildren begin to arrive, her focus changed to them. Just like with her children, she was always there for school and extracurricular activities for them even sewing costumes for them. During her free time, she continued working with plants and in her garden and started her love of reading with her favorite authors, Louis L’Amour and Mary Higgins Clark. Another thing she loved doing was going to garage sales and thrift stores. Whenever she would go to one, she always managed to bring home a treasure or two. She enjoyed making weekend trips to Center Point, TX to visit her parents and family where they would be going to thrift stores or playing Loteria. She was so appreciative of her granddaughter, Amie, who was always willing to take her to doctor’s appointments and spend time with her. In recent years when her son became ill, she insisted she would take care of him and she kept to her word and dedicated herself to just that . She will forever be remembered for her faith in God, love of family, and always putting others first.
They had celebrated 48 years of marriage at the time of Lynn’s passing.
