Marie E. Waldrop, 98, of Kerrville, passed away on September 16, 2016, in Kerrville. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Phillip and Anise Guillory on September 13, 1918. She married Curtis E. Waldrop on March 7, 1941, in Beaumont, Texas.\r\n\r\n She went to school in Ville Platte, Louisiana. After moving to Texas at the age of 18 years of age, she went to work at Sears, Roebuck and Co. as manager of the jewelry department. Later she earned her GED and began her career in hairstyling. During those years she began owning a small salon but gradually came to own the largest salon in Beaumont, Texas. She became a radio and TV personality as well as gave lectures. She was always wanting and willing to help others. Her career actually began when a representative from one of the largest hair corporations, ZOTOS, located in New York City, came into the salon and personally asked to see her. He asked her to be the platform artist for hair shows, representing their corporation. She also worked for the Kenra Hair Company from Indianapolis, Indiana, being a platform artist, and the rest is history. Marie began styling hair throughout the United States and Canada including Hawaii and the Virgin Islands. She spoke fluent French, as well as English. \r\n \r\n The most important things in life to her was her God, family and career in hairstyling. She was always willing to pray for anyone, anywhere whether she knew them or not. She was truly one of a kind, speaking her mind, whether you wanted to hear it or not. She was also a fabulous cook, sharing with many on special holidays or for no reason at all.\r\n\r\n Marie is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Curtis E. Waldrop. Marie is survived by her two daughters: Carolyn and husband Michael Michalec of Kerrville, Texas, Sue and husband Rodney Haglund of San Antonio, Texas; half-sister, Ruby McDaniel of Vidor, Texas; Grandchildren, Mindy and Corby Wallace of San Angelo, Texas, Ryan and Heather Haglund of San Antonio, Texas, Travis Haglund and Sarah Ofsdahl of San Antonio, Texas; Great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Riley Wallace of San Angelo, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\n Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2016, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas.\r\n Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, with Pastors Del Way of Calvary Temple Church, Kerrville and Pastor Jim D. Rion of Westover Hills Assembly of God, San Antonio, Texas, officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories, Kerrville, Texas. Pallbearers will be Rodney Haglund, Ryan Haglund, Travis Haglund, Brandon Michalec, Michael Michalec and Corby Wallace.\r\n\r\n Memorials may be made to Calvary Temple Church Building Fund, Kerrville, Texas or to Westover Hills Assembly of God Building Fund, San Antonio, Texas, or to the charity of your choice.\r\n\r\n The family of Marie Waldrop wish to express our sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Riverhills Health and Rehab Center and Sid Peterson Hospice.\r\n\r\n Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
