Raye Joan Pickett Haney, age 86 of Ingram, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016. She was born at home on September 7, 1929 to John and Olga Foerster Pickett in Fredericksburg, Texas. Raye was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. \r\n \r\nShe married George W. (Dub) Haney on April 27, 1957 in Mountain Home, Texas. Raye and Dub were married 59 years. \r\n \r\nRaye is survived by husband Dub; daughters, Gayle Haney, Joan Salsbury and her husband Craig; granddaughter, Kate Salsbury; very special niece, Patsy Angell and her husband Jim and family; sister-in-law, Geraldine Haney Voelter of Sugar Land, Texas; brother-in-law, Jack Haney and wife Mary Helen of Huntsville, Texas; sister-in-law, Loraine Haynie and husband Jim of Mountain Home, Texas; Suzie Hay; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. \r\n \r\nRaye's family moved from time to time. Her father was a baker and he worked at bakeries in various places in Texas and one place in New Mexico, finally settling in Kerrville, Texas. Raye made friends everywhere they lived. One dear friend, Ruth Custer Durst, was made while in grade school in Mason. In adult life Ruth's family moved to Kerrville and the friendship continued. Then in high school in Kerrville, Raye made another dear friend, Pauline Evans Mosty. Raye visited each of them at their homes at least once a week and spoke with them almost every day on the phone. They will be able to do their daily visiting again now. \r\n \r\nRaye was very community oriented. While living at Mountain Home early in their marriage, they were members of Sunset Baptist Church, re-joined First Baptist Church Kerrville in 1974, and most recently joined Trinity Baptist Church Kerrville. Over the years Raye has been in several organizations: WMU at Sunset and First Baptist, Hill Country Cowboy Camp Meeting Auxiliary where she was one of the kitchen organizers for many years, Ingram PTA, volunteer for the Kerrville Centennial, was in both Ingram and Hunt Garden clubs, a charter member of American Business Women's Association, was one of the people in charge of the Christmas Tree Forest, volunteered at the Texas State Arts & Craft Fair, was volunteer coordinator of Texas Sesquicentennial and for the volunteers for the store, Kerrville Chamber Ambassador, Kerr County Ambassador of the year 1993, Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce (Women's Chamber), Outstanding Woman of the Year 1985-1986, Ioma Jones Award 1991-92, Kerrville Senior Games Volunteer becoming Volunteer Director for over ten years, and was Co-Citizen of the Year with her husband Dub Haney in 1996. Also, she was a longtime member of the Kerr County Historical Commission. In April 2016 she was made co-lifetime member of the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce with Dub and February 28 will now and forever be Dub & Raye Haney Day. Raye, at one time or another, has held officer's positions in each of the various clubs. Raye was an avid hospital visitor. She always had a kind word and gentle smile for others and gave of herself without hesitation. She was baker of what some would say were the best buttermilk pies around, enjoyed by many, many folks. \r\n \r\nRaye is preceded in death by her parents, John and Olga Pickett, and both brothers, Reubin Pickett and John "Jackie" Pickett. \r\n \r\nOur thanks to Trinity Baptist Church for all the love and friendship, new and old, that Raye has felt since being at Trinity. Also to Trinity and the community for all of the prayers, love, cards, gifts, food, and flowers given for Raye and Dub. \r\n \r\nThe family wants to thank Dr. Valerian Chyle of Kerrville Cancer Center and the kind and caring staff there. Also Dr. James Young and Peterson Home Health nurses and aides. Lastly, but not least by any means, Peterson Hospice nurses and aides, most especially her nurse Lisa. \r\n \r\nVisitation will be held 5:30-7:30 PM, Friday, May 27, 2016 at Grimes Funeral Chapels.\r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Trinity Baptist Church officiated by Rev.
