Richard Hinton

Richard Warren Hinton, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on October 21, 2016 at the age of 72. \r\n\r\nBorn in Midland, Texas on June 26, 1944 to Frank and Daurthy Hinton, Rick and his family moved to the San Francisco Bay area where he was raised. He returned to Texas to attend college, graduating from Southern Methodist University in 1966. \r\n\r\nFollowing graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in the Philippines as a communications officer. Having completed his military service, Rick returned to the U.S., living several years in Minnesota before moving again to Texas. In Houston, he got a job at The Houston Post, eventually becoming sports editor of the paper. And it was in Houston that he was reacquainted with long-time family friend Jean McSpadden who became his wife of 40 years. In 1992, Rick made another foray to the Midwest, moving with Jean and their two sons to Bismarck, North Dakota where Rick worked at The Bismarck Tribune. Retirement brought Rick and Jean back to Texas in 2010. In Kerrville, Rick enjoyed geocaching, birdwatching, photo1graphy, baking no-knead bread and grilling the fine meats sold at Daddy Jim's Quality Meats. \r\n\r\nRick is survived by his wife, Jean Hinton; daughter, Lelia (Tony) Thell of Bloomington, MN; sons, Evan (Amanda) Hinton and Ethan (Rachael) Hinton of West Fargo, ND; granddaughters, Eleanor and Evelyn Thell; grandsons, Francis Hinton and Simon Tyson. \r\n\r\nMemorial donations may be made to Last Chance Forever: The Bird of Prey Conservancy at www.lastchanceforever.org or the charity of your choice. \r\n\r\nCache on, Rick!
