Samuel Hoover, 94, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 in Del Rio, Texas, which would have been he and Elaine's 67th wedding anniversary. He was born in Columbia, Tennessee to Samuel Hoover and Alma Lee Regen on October 17, 1922. He married Elaine V. Johnson on October 6, 1950 in Abilene, Texas.\r\n \r\nHe graduated from ACC University in 1948 with a degree in business. He worked as an accountant for Union Oil Company starting in February of 1950 in Midland, Texas where he and Elaine lived until September of 1955, then was transferred to Calgary, Canada for 19 months; from there they went to Tulsa, Oklahoma from April of 1957 to April of 1961. Sam then took a position at the home office in Los Angeles, California. Sam and Elaine's premature son, Eric, was born and buried in Tulsa in July of 1960. Sam and Elaine bought a home in San Gabriel, California some 14 miles from downtown Los Angeles, and took occupancy in May 1961. \r\n \r\nOn May 17, 1962 they brought home their adopted son born May 8, 1962 who they named J Clark. Six years later in 1968, Sam was transferred to Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America as Chief Accountant for the Union Oil office. Two years later he was transferred back to the home office in Los Angeles and they bought a house in Arcadia, California. He worked for Union Oil Company for a total of 35.5 years and retired in September of 1985.\r\n \r\nHe served in the US Army in Signal Corps and was stationed in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from approximately 1942 to 1945. He was a devoted Christian all his life in the Church of Christ. \r\n \r\nHe was preceded in death by Elaine, his wife of 61 years; son, Eric; and various relatives and parents.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his son, Clark 55; grandson, James Clark Hoover 30; granddaughter, Samantha Allison Hoover 28; grandson, Eric Christopher Hoover 21; sister, Lucile Watson 88 of Columbia, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nFuneral services are at 10 am, Monday, October 23, 2017 at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, Texas. Olden Cook will be officiating the memorial service. Burial to follow at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas at 2 pm, where he and his beloved Elaine will be laid to rest.\r\n \r\nThe family of Clark Hoover wishes to extend his thanks to La Vida Serena Nursing Home in Del Rio, Texas for taking care of Samuel over the past 3 years and to Mary Lou and Dave Ryan for looking after Samuel.\r\n
