Severa Fernandez, age 92, of Bandera, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. She was born on November 6, 1933, in D'Hanis, Texas, to Siprano and Amada Oranday.
Severa was the devoted wife of the late Alejos Fernandez. Together they built a loving home and raised seven sons in Bandera: Lupe Fernandez, Frank Fernandez, Trini Fernandez, Ricky Fernandez, Rudy Fernandez, Pedro Fernandez, and Marcos Fernandez. Family was the center of Severa's life, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her husband, children, grandchildren, and everyone blessed to know her.
Known for her kindness, generosity, and nurturing spirit, Severa never met a stranger. She lovingly cared for her grandchildren and many others who found comfort, guidance, and a warm meal in her home. To family, friends, and neighbors alike, she was simply known as "Grandma."
Severa had a talent for sewing and needlework, but her greatest joy was caring for others. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where she shared her love through cooking. Her family especially cherished her homemade enchiladas, mole, tamales, tortillas, buñuelos, and her beloved holiday favorite, capirotada. Whenever her sons came to visit, she made sure their favorite meals were waiting for them, creating memories that will live on for generations.
She was deeply loved by her family and is survived by her seven sons; 21 grandchildren, including 13 grandsons and 8 granddaughters; 31 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Severa is also survived by her two sisters, Maria Torres and Nena Escamilla, and her brother, Abram Oranday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alejos Fernandez; her parents, Siprano and Amada Oranday; six brothers; and two sisters.
A visitation will be held on Thursday October 22, 2026, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Bandera Funeral Chapel with a Rosary to follow.
