Shirley Kendrick

Shirley Ann Pember Kendrick, 73, of Bandera, went home to be with the Lord on July 23, 2021 surrounded by family. She was born in Bandera, Texas to Willis Hobert Pember, Jr., and Mineola Crider Pember on January 28, 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Howard Kendrick on April 6, 1966 in Bandera. She graduated from Bandera High School in 1966. In her early years, Shirley enjoyed rodeoing and raising Angora Goats. Shirley continued raising Angora Goats, which started with her father, and carried on through her children and grandchildren. She was also one of the last five certified judges from the Texas Angora Goat Raisers Association (TAGRA). In 1997, Stan and Shirley moved to the Turkey Track Ranch in Southeast New Mexico where they spent almost 20 years. That is where she had most of her fondest memories. She loved spending time with her grandchildren on the ranch where they loved hunting for pottery, playing in the sand dunes, horseback riding and feeding cows. While on the ranch, she also loved cooking for the cowboys on gathering days at their camp. Her and Stan also had yearly competitions to see who could kill the most rattlesnakes. Upon returning back to Texas in 2016 after their retirement, Shirley enjoyed trapping and helping with the family livestock. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willis Hobert Pember, Jr and Mineola Crider Pember. She is survived by her husband of 55 years; Stanley Howard Kendrick. Children, son, Michiel Kendrick and wife Stacy and daughter, Leela Kendrick; Siblings, Maudie Chafin, Bonnie Naumann, Willie Pember, and Kay Pember; Grandchildren, Stephanie Carr, Michele Good, Samantha Tondre, and Charlie Tondre; great-grandson, Roxin Carr and numerous nieces and nephews. And former son-in-law, Chuck Tondre. Visitation will be on July 28, 2021 at Grimes Funeral Chapels from 9-10 am. Funeral services will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels on July 28, 2021 at 10 am. Burial will follow at the Pipe Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Ray Chafin, Marty Pape, Ted Robinson, Chuck Tondre, Tooter Trees and Donnie Walker. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to TAGRA Scholarship PO Box 5, Voca, TX 76887. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at Peterson Regional Medical Center, Dr. Edward Erb, Cedar Creek Nursing and Peterson Hospice.
