I met Tom at Lowes when he walked in the store with his shorts, torn t-shirt, flip flops and a half chewed cigar hanging out his mouth. He was so mad at the way he had been treated that he walked out and went to a competitor store then came back to our store. He demanded to see a manager and while we waited to see the manager we chatted. He was a really nice guy and he was building his family dream project, lots of cabins and RV spaces a huge venue for weddings with a store and possibly a restaurant all on site. The manager came up and asked him what was the problem. Tom whipped out a mile long receipt and said that this is the sale Lowes lost due to the way he was treated, THOUSANDS of dollars. he said that they took one look at him and thought he didn't have money to spend and he felt discriminated against. The manager kept apologizing and asked him to give Lowes another chance. Tom said "I tell ya what, I will give Lowes another chance ONLY if Angela is the ONLY person that takes his order and is the ONLY person that can wait on him". the manager agreed and that's how I got to get to know Tom Manis. I have been out to his Job several times. I met his family and I got to see the updates and the new cabins and pool, laundry room and so on. Unfortunately I lost contact with Tom after I left Lowes. Tom taught me that customer service and being kind paid off. and not to judge a book by the cover. Rest in peace Tom. you will be missed. If the family has a funeral, I would like to attend. i am now working at the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce.
