Wilbur (Wil) W. Vernon Sr. of Bandera passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of May 19th, 2025. He was 89 years old. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio to Lawrence L. and Cecile Mae Vernon on September 29, 1935. He married his wife, Charlotte on April 13, 1987.
He attended the Mt. Vernon City Schools and graduated in 1954. Shortly following his graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He received Certificates of Commendation for his beneficial suggestions. He honorably served his country for 20 years.
Wilbur was a member of the F.B.C. of Bandera where he was a deacon. He co-founded Boaz Ministries. He also enjoyed working at the Bandera County Compactor Station for several years.
Wil was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and a granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte, his children Wil (Lisa), Cindy (Dave), and Amy. His one remaining sister resides in Tallahassee, Fla. He was grandfather to six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 5–8 PM. Funeral services will be held June 4, 2025 at 10 AM at the Bandera Funeral Chapel with the Dr. David Kimberly officiating. Burial will take place at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 PM following the funeral service.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors, nurses, and staff at Main Methodist Hospital (6th & 9th floor), San Antonio, TX, and to the wonderful staff at Alamo Hospice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Bandera Funeral Chapel.
