William Edward McGeorge

November 30, 1949 — June 22, 2023

William Edward McGeorge, a.k.a. “Mr. Bill” passed away on June 22, 2023, in Bandera, TX. He leaves behind his loving wife, Ona McGeorge and all the kids he helped raise, especially Janet Wright, Brandon Bradshaw, Justin Gillmore, and David B. Acker. There are also 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was born in Massillon, OH on November 30, 1949, and lived to be 73 years old. He lived an exciting and adventurous life that most of us can only dream of. He was a world traveler who spoke seven foreign languages and played nine musical instruments. He went into the Air Force on September 27, 1967, at the tender age of 17 and retired May 31, 1989 - 22 ½ years later at the age of 39.

Master Sargent McGeorge earned many medals including:

  • The Meritorious Service Medal
  • Air Force Commendation Medal
  • Distinguished-Presidential Unit Citation
  • 8 Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards with Valor
  • 5 A Good Conduct Medals
  •  National Defense Service Medal
  • 6 Viet Nam Service Medals
  • 3 A Humanitarian Service Medals
  • 2 Air Force Overseas Short Tours
  • 4 Air Force Long Tour Ribbons
  • A Republic of Viet Nam Gallantry Cross Award and many others.

After he retired from the Air Force, he became an over the road truck driver and traveled to most of the “lower 48”.   He married Ona, his wife of almost 30 years on January 1, 1994. He was a soft-spoken man who had a great personality and excelled in deadpan “Bob Newhart” type of comedy which left people baffled and laughing. He did have a serious side but reserved that for things that needed to be serious such as being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1999 at 50 years old. As the disease progressed, he survived a heart attack, diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, and COPD and yet he still retained his sense of humor. He entered hospice on Thursday morning June 15, and suffered a pulmonary embolism that very evening. He fell into a deep sleep and passed peacefully the following Thursday, June 22.
