Willie Schmidt Hufstedler completed her earthly journey and met her Lord and Savior face to face on Dec. 23, 2016. Just days before her death, she celebrated her 94th birthday with her family. Willie was born in Hays County near Goforth, Texas to Gustav and Callie Belle Schmidt. Her earliest memories were of going to church with her brothers and sister and parents. After her father died in 1927, her family moved to Abilene. In 1946, she married Charles Edward Hufstedler, who had just returned from the war. They moved to Wichita Falls for a short time while Charles learned watch making, then returned to Abilene where their son Tim was born. Next move was to San Marcos and their daughter Sharla was born. They lived in Ballinger for 12 years and then loved living for 25 years in Austin where they enjoyed dancing and attending parties and traveling. In 1986 Willie retired from DPS after a 20 year career and moved to Kerrville in 2000.\r\n \r\nHer family was her pride and joy and she loved telling others about her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. At family gatherings, she always wanted a count of how many of her descendants were in attendance.\r\n \r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Hufstedler, her sister Zelma Garrett, and her brothers Neil and Harvey Schmidt.\r\n \r\nWillie is survived by her son, Tim Hufstedler and wife Kathie of Kerrville, daughter, Sharla Jackson and her husband Ken of Bozeman, Montana, granddaughters Adrienne Crenwelge, Jennifer Jaeger and husband James, and Melissa Hufstedler of Kerrville, and grandson Dustin Jackson and wife Davya of Bozeman. In addition she leaves seven great grandchildren: Matthew Crenwelge and wife Sara, Brenna, Braden, and Brooke Jaeger of Kerrville, and Sonja and Landon Jackson of Bozeman, and four great great grandchildren: Ayden, Krysten, Olyver, and Faye Crenwelge of Kerrville. That count is 21 all because of you, Willie!\r\n \r\nWillie was also especially fond of her niece Nancy Morse of Austin and has many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.\r\n \r\nSpecial thanks to the staff of Brookdale Guadalupe Plaza and Peterson Hospice for the love and care you gave Willie during the last years of her life.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Coming King Foundation (The Empty Cross).\r\n \r\nVisitation will be Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville. The service will be on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10 AM at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.\r\n
